Qum, Iran – Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi met with a number of Sunni scholars from Afghanistan. He told them that Afghanistan has faced many difficulties and must unite to solve them.

Ayatollah Nasir Makarem Shirazi recently met with a number of prominent Afghan scholars in Qum. He said: “The scholars of Afghanistan must come together and govern Afghanistan in the best possible method. This country has seen great misfortune.”

Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi stated that there are three main problems that Afghanistan faces. The first problem was sectarian disputes and disputes. He stated that the Wahhabis have introduced Islam as a violent religion when, in fact, Islam is a peaceful religion.

The second problem that Afghanistan is facing is occupation. As long as the foreign armies occupy Afghanistan they will only be after their own benefits. It is incorrect to think that they will be after Afghanistan’s benefits.

The third problem is a cultural war that is being led by the occupiers. They want to weaken Islam in Afghanistan, especially amongst the younger generation.

Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi added that we should not add a fourth category – fighting between Sunnis and Shias. We must unite to solve these problems.

At the end he stated that he prays every night for Afghanistan. He prays: “Allah, return peace and security to Afghanistan, Pakistan, Lebanon, and all Islamic countries.”
